It’s been a very long time since the last post here on AXCEL STYLE, moreso than a very long time since MADKID released their latest and only single of 2020, Rai-Rai-Rai. There were so many factors that we decided to put the site on hiatus besides the horrific COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic really changed the daily lives of many, including us and most especially MADKID.
But, after several months since Rai-Rai-Rai, MADKID is back on the limelight, completely rebooted and rebuilt. What do we mean by rebooted? We will talk about that right now.
On October 14, 2020,1 MADKID held a special livestream on both LINE LIVE and YouTube with the title called The Reboot of MADKID. You can watch the replay in their new YouTube channel. Just fast-forward to about 10:00 to begin the livestream:

The Big Announcements
Why did MADKID call their comebackREBOOT? Here’s why:
– The MADKID mobile FC2 that was first opened back in January 2020 had been shut down on September 30, 2020. As a long-time FC member, I had to cancel my monthly fees before that date, as the system will not cancel payments on its own. When we heard the announcements on Twitter, a few friends and I thought that MADKID may be going through management changes and may no longer be with their agency, Slow Jam Productions.
As we thought, MADKID did leave Slow Jam Productions. The group has decided to establish their own agency company, Future Notes. This would mean that in the near future, a brand-new FC site will be launched under the new name. YOU-TA is revealed as the president/CEO of Future Notes.
In addition to the foundation of Future Notes, MADKID has re-signed a new recording contract with their previous recording label, Nippon Columbia, who was responsible for producing and releasing all their material from their debut single Never Going Back to their debut album Circus.
MADKID will have a new radio show on the AuDee app (formerly known as JFN PARK) called REBOOT OF MADKID; every Wednesdays at 21:00 (9:00 pm) JST.
{12/25] MADKID will have their first and only one-man live/one-man concert for 2020, titled REBOOT. If you can recall, they were supposed to have a one-man live titled NEW DIVIDE, but it never happened because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the restrictions, there will be online streaming. More information on this one at a later time.
Lastly, on February 2021, MADKID will be dropping their first EP as an independent unit, titled REBOOT.
Once we get more information about the latter two announcements, we’ll be sure to update.
New Twitter Account
Because I have been in new fandoms during MADKID’s long-term hiatus, I opened a new public account that will be a mix of MADKID and other J-Pop groups/fandoms. Please follow if you’re interested.
It really is good to be back and it’s a nice, fresh feeling to get AXCEL STYLE active again. There’ll be more portions that needed to be updated, but please stay tuned!
Yesterday, 10/22/19 JST, SEPT presented two special stages featuring the cast (and crew) of the upcoming stage musical CinderEile with special guests. As some of you know, MADKID was one of these special guests. I wasn’t at the event itself, but there have been some small reports here and there about what happened during the event and who was also present as well on Twitter. Just moments after the event, the official CinderEile website was updated with new visuals with the cast members wearing their character’s outfits. Still, we don’t know what roles they’ll be playing in the musical, but my hunch from my last post that SHIN will be playing one of the two main protagonists of the story has been confirmed. We still don’t know which one of the two roles (Haruto or Tomoki) he will be portraying. With the stage musical happening in less than two weeks as of this writing, we’ll eventually find out very soon.
I decided to post about CinderEile today for those who are interested in this huge solo project Shin will be participating in. If you haven’t been a MADKID fan for that long, Shin isn’t the first MADKID member to be part of a stage production cast. You can take a guess who’s the first member to be part of a stage production cast. 1 Partially, because Shin is my bias in MADKID, I wanted to write about this as well. 2
SEPT Artist Collection vol. 4
Last night, SEPT presented their periodical SEPT Artist Collection vol. 4 featuring the cast of CinderEile and other special guests to perform a few of the songs from the stage production’s soundtrack. The event took place twice on the same day: the Afternoon Stage (1:00 pm JST) and the Evening Stage (6:30 pm JST). Each event was divided into two sessions: the live performance session and the talk session.
There are a few differences between the two stages. Shin was present in both stages, with him at the talk session during the Afternoon Stage and both sessions during the Evening Stage. Second, MADKID performed on the Live Performance session on the Evening Stage including Shin, singing one of the songs included in the stage musical. Some of the cast members are also members of a few of the (underground/indie) J-Pop boy groups, such as agency brother group N0NAME, CIYST, Bumpin’ Buzz Scarab, and others.
It was a fun-filled day and those who came to watch any one of the two stages (or both) now had a small glimpse of how the stage musical would be like and was fortunate to hear a sample of the songs included in the soundtrack. The first performance day will be on 11/6/19 (Wednesday), which is less than two weeks from today.
A bit about the story background
I’m still not very good at translations, but a very brief summary of the musical is posted on the official website. This isn’t a completely direct translation, but the lines go something like this:
Pumpkin carriage, the sounding of the bell at midnight, and the glass shoes: the story of Cinderella that everyone knows. However, “they” were waiting for a slightly different occurence.
Haruto and Tomoki woke up in an unfamiliar place and encountered Ella, who lost her memories. Both are bestowed a quest to restore the story of Cinderella that has been disrupted…
Haruto was suddenly entrusted with the fate of the world and gradually struggles with contradictions with his true self.
The one behind the destruction of this world and its purpose.
And what is Ella’s true identity…
Song, dance, and magic spun together, a completely new Cinderella story kicks off.
Based on the summary above, this is more of a fantasy adventure story than a romantic story as to how it’s always been in Cinderella. Personally, I love musicals in general, and I’m a little bit sad that I won’t be able to make it to Japan at such short notice because of my current life situation right now.
However, there is something that piqued my interest from the website. I’ll write about it a little later here.
Again, I’m not sure which role Shin is going to portray, however, the new promotion visual has given me a few clues. It’s confirmed that Shin’s character is one of the two main protagonists (Haruto and Tomoki), with the other actor being Fukuzawa Yuu. 4
The second point that I noticed from their promo visual are the two quotes in the middle with one slight difference:
Both (loosely) translates as “Myself as of right now, is this the real me?” The summary doesn’t reveal much about the story, but from those words alone, it sounds like Ella isn’t the only one who lost her memories. Both Haruto and Tomoki are also wondering the same thing, not about the mystery girl they met, but also about themselves? 7
Since they’re dealing with “restoring” the original story of Cinderella, I can make a guess. One of the two main protagonists may be the famed “Prince Charming” that many of us are familiar with from the original Cinderella story. I joked before with some friends about Shin “not” being Prince Charming on the story, but after seeing this, who knows? Or maybe that’s not the case after all. What do you all think?

Conclusion
If you’re able to read Japanese, or at least most of the Japanese writing system anyway, you can check out their website. I know I didn’t include every single detail in this post, but if you’re serious in coming to watch, please check the site out anyway.
As of the DVD release, we’ll have to keep an eye out because there’s no information on when the DVD will come out anywhere on the site. If you plan on purchasing the DVD, just stay tuned for more info on this. Hopefully, for us global Axcels, there will be a way for us to purchase it.
If I do get my hands on the DVD and watch it, 8 I’ll be writing a review here. But don’t expect this happening anytime soon.
“Hi, guys~!”“What’s up, guys?” You may probably be wondering why I started off this entry with those two simple, very casual and informal greetings as a way to break the ice as a visitor to a country they’ve never ventured on in their lives. If you have been paying attention to the MADKID members’ IG stories from a few days ago, 1 the first words YUKI and SHIN said towards the camera when they finally revealed themselves walking down the streets of San Jose, California, U.S.A.
Those words somehow caught on among Japanese Axcels, and “Hi, guys~!” and “What’s up, guys?” have become an (unofficial) English greeting to one another and even towards MADKID. Low-key trends begin usually at huge conventions such as the annual Crunchyroll Expo and with the power of social media, it will eventually catch on. So, hi guys!
If you happen to stumble upon this site because you’re curious about MADKID, then please spread the word about our boys. Just sharing/plugging this site is a start, but also share all of the fancams and official videos from their MVs to their live performances to the masses. As current Axcels and new Axcels, let’s help MADKID of making their dreams come true, 2 as they, in turn, would give an awesome performance of a lifetime to all Axcels and the curious alike.
But first, a few upcoming events for the month of September and October. I have to scourge around Twitter to find the upcoming events because MADKID Twitter hasn’t been quite active in announcing confirmed live events. I may have missed a few, and if I have, I’ll be sure to update the list.
9/16 – Yokohama Precious Day (14:00 JST)
9/23 – AXCEL MEETING vol. 14 (18:00 JST)
9/27 – Ocean Wind 2019
10/13 – GIRLS MEETING Live Edition 2019 Autumn (12:00 JST)
Alright, now that we got out of the way, let’s move on to the real happenings from this past week.
Animelo Summer Special 2019 (Anisama)
I want to touch base on this particular event, just a few days before their debut live performance overseas at the Crunchyroll Expo 2019. The reason why I mentioned this is because there are a few different things that went on with this one:
Anisama is a huge event for all the artists who participated in the singing of the opening and ending themes of the currently aired anime in Japan and around the world. Thinking this may hinder their health in California (because of time zones and jet lags), it was a surprise that their slot is early in the morning and it only takes 45 minutes. They performed RISE and FAITH and other songs I can’t remember.
We’re used to seeing fancams from their release events where the audience remains silent as they perform. On Anisama, on the other hand, it was the first time that we’ve seen a live video of a MADKID stage completely hyped up.
The audience watching MADKID became one of the most diverse audiences I’ve ever seen in a MADKID live video:
After their stage was over, they leave the venue and back to their respective homes, doing their last-minute packing for their long 10+ hour trip to California for their first-ever overseas live event!
Crunchyroll Expo 2019
After becoming an Axcel back in April 2018, thinking that watching a MADKID live of any kind would remain as a dream or a figment of my own imagination. I’ve seen fancams floating around Twitter and YouTube, seen photos of Japanese Axcels posing with the guys, showing off a few items being autographed by the guys, you know the deal. Then on my 2nd year of being an Axcel, things suddenly happen in my life.
After waiting for the long two months since the announcement of the Crunchyroll Expo, it’s finally here! I’m going to leave out the “personal experience” bit from this entry, but instead, I’ll just write out the facts that I’ve gotten from this day.
The Rising of the Shield Hero Special Stage Panel
Because of CRX restrictions, we were not allowed to take photos or video during the event. I did capture a video of MADKID’s RISE performance in the beginning, but that’s about it. I’ll be using the video for research/blog write-up source purposes only. However, here’s how the scene looked like before MADKID entered the stage.
Anyway, continuing.
The panel started off with MADKID opening the stage with their performance of the anime’s first opening, RISE. Like in Anisama, the guys appeared in their RISE outfits, as it seems that many fans have become accustomed to the outfits they were wearing on the RISE MV. After their performance, they had a brief interview with the host and with help from an interpreter 3 about their composition, lyrics, and their performances to the opening themes. The O-Network Twitter account, an online magazine network dedicated to Asian Pop, has a good summary of the questions being asked, as well as the Shield Hero English Twitter account.
After the interview, MADKID performed their second opening theme, FAITH. When they were finished, they exited the stage for the other Shield Hero guests 4 to make their panel interviews. In general, it was more about the behind-the-scenes productions and moments of the movie, as well as other small details such as ratings, feedback, and so on.
Finally, near the end of the panel, new announcements came, and we (the panelists) were the first to hear about this awesome news. Both Season 2 and Season 3 have been officially confirmed and are now in production. They even showed us a few sneak peeks of some screenshots already drawn out. The best part about these announcements is that we present at the panel were the first to hear of it before the Japanese fans (and other fans not present) have done. The producer admitted that Shield Hero wasn’t quite doing well with the ratings on Japanese TV, but the huge impact of the global/non-Japanese fans saved the series from ending its anime run early. The news and the feeling of the global fans being truly recognized by the industry is simply amazing.
After the announcements, MADKID was called back out on stage. Right then, we took a group photo. It’s the top featured page I’m using for this post. There was no mention if MADKID would be chosen again to compose the opening (or maybe ending?) themes for Season 2 and Season 3, but if Shield Hero is the main key for MADKID to be able to perform concerts outside of Japan, then we all do hope the guys are chosen to compose and perform again.
Nightclub
The nightclub section of CRX is a huge chamber with a stage in which selected performers will have at 15-30 minute slot to give special performances to those who were just chillin’ and hanging out for some awesome music. MADKID was given a 15-minute slot in the late afternoon to perform RISE and FAITH.
The difference between the panel version and the nightclub version is that the latter is a little more “personal.” According to my friends who have attended many of MADKID’s lives back in Japan, the nightclub reminded them a lot of these lives scenario where the venue is standing-only. The only difference is that there is a gap barrier between the audience and the performers in Japan. The CRX nightclub has none.
Rather than giving you all the details, I’ll let you watch the fancam I recorded here:
Apparently, according to YOU-TA on their CRX post-live video, this is probably the biggest turnup audience they ever had in any of their stand-alone one-man lives. It’s also surprising because they only performed two songs. Not only that, just like with the audience in their Anisama event, the audience at CRX is heavily diverse – girls, guys, “in-between,” all gathered together to watch and party with MADKID. From all of this, I pray that one day that they will have a live tour here in the States. Please, make it happen.
CRX officially ended and closed at 5:00 p.m., which was rather a sad ending. For the personal experience part of this entire event, I’ll write about all that in another blog entry.
I’ll leave this video to your enjoyment. Till next time!
As of this writing, we now have seven days left until MADKID’s debut performance outside of Japan at the Crunchyroll Expo 2019. Some of you reading this may be wondering if I’m super duper excited for this moment to come, being both as an Axcel of over a year and as (probably) the only active Axcel who is also a local. To be honest with you all, I am both excited and nervous at the same time. I mean after all, even though I may be one person, but as one of the few Axcels representing the U.S., especially with the state of California, I don’t want to end up being a disappointment to the boys and to the Japanese Axcels who will be flying out here. Still, I also want this event to be a memorable one for all of us, even if it’s just one day.
But first things first. This 30th What’s Happening? post isn’t about CRX. I’ve written about that a lot already in the past. I will be writing about CRX again right after the actual event. And then, there are other things as well.
MADKID 5th One-Man Live: New Divide
This explains why the boys have new profile pics. It was actually expected that something new will be announced in lieu of these new concept pics. It was either going to be a new single, new album, or a new live tour. Rather, we get a one-location one-man live known as New Divide. It was announced yesterday of this upcoming solo live event with (hopefully) new tracks and probably other surprises that we might not expect.
The following information is as follows:
MADKID One-Man Live: New Divide February 6, 2020 Shibuya WWW X 7:30 p.m. JST
FC 1 first dibs on ticket sales open at September 23, 2019 (JST).
If you want to see the original tweet, here it is (along with the promo video):
MADKID 2020.02.06ワンマンライブ決定🔥 【New Divide】 SHIBUYA WWW X 18:45 OPEN / 19:30 START チケットFC先行発売決定‼️ (9/23までにご入会の方) 詳しくはHPでご確認ください。https://t.co/g1VEgZBfCR
As you know, the background music playing in the background is definitely new music. But it’s not the official new single 2 since their first album release CIRCUS. Still, you get a chance to listen to this song in full…
… if you are an FC member, that is.
This new limited single you’re hearing in the background is called My Own Way, another rock joint the boys produced since RISE and FAITH. Even if you’re lucky to be an FC member, you can’t exactly download the actual track, as it is in lyric video format. 3 Now, speaking as a techie, there is a way of extracting the audio from that lyric video and make it as your own single and listening to it in your own personal playlist, but for the sake of your privileges as a member, please don’t do it.
I have listened to the song and it is yet another uplifting song of encouragement depicting the power of independence and individuality. This song theme has been common and more well-known for MADKID as that is what they represent in the first place. I’ll be listening to it when I need some personal encouragement for the things I really need encouragement on, but otherwise, that’s it.
I wouldn’t worry and pout about this being an FC-only release. We still got the “BER” 4 months and January 2020 for any more upcoming news and releases from the guys. But, in the meantime, please do consider joining the FC.
Speaking of the FC…
Updates on the FC Site Renewal
Speaking as a web dev, I didn’t expect for the FC site devs to run into various problems during their migration and revamping. However, once most of it is up and visible, well…
Throughout Twitter, I’ve seen fellow (Japanese) Axcels having problems with logging in. Many of them somehow got error messages stating their memberships have expired, even though they recently renewed them. There are others 5 who just can’t log in at all, even if the FC staff emailed them directly of their new username and password.
Because of this, a lot of fans missed out on the FC-only events that were announced, such as the September Axcel Meeting and this:
Right, I’m not going to go into detail about that one. But earlier this week, I’ve gotten back and forth with the FC staff regarding the login issue. I’m not going to go into detail with this one on this post or even here on this site because I’ve got a lot to say, speaking as a dev, rather as a fan. I’ll be writing about that in a site study on my tech blog.
Conclusion
It’s a very short entry! 😂
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one noticing this, but has anyone noticed MADKID slowed down and went low-key since their first six months of 2019? As they say, good things do come to those who wait, and even though waiting sucks, that’s the only thing we can do right now.
Sometimes, it’s hard to hype up a group so good to the general public 6 when you got not-so-new things to introduce and show off. But, if we’re going to hype up MADKID to the general social media world, today and anytime after today is the best time.
Closing out this entry, I won’t be writing anything else on this site until after CRX. Instead, catch me on Twitter for any quick updates during CRX. I still have to build up an itinerary for myself and for friends arriving here, so I’ll be focusing more on the event next week.
We are now halfway through the year 2019, and even if we’re spending this year’s summer season with rest, relaxation, and silence after the hectic first six months of new releases from RISE, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and their debut full-length album CIRCUS, we all deserve some vacation while preparing for the next big thing. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the guys haven’t been working. Usually at a silent period like this, they’re busy cooking up something fresh and new, and they won’t say anything until they’re done.
But, this doesn’t mean they’re not doing some relaxation of their own. In fact, a few of the members do keep in touch with their fans with their own ways of relaxation. Two of the members, for the first time, have flown out of Japan to do their own overseas vacations… for a few days.
Just about a week before MADKID Official Twitter announced their live appearance at Crunchyroll Expo 2019 back in June, SHIN made his first short trip outside for the first time by himself. Sure, it may sound insane that you’d fly out to a country you’re barely familiar with, but SHIN is the type of guy who loves to take on challenges and tackle them on his own. 1 At that time, many Axcels were curious for his reasoning for visiting Seoul aside from having a vacation, but for me, I just thought that he was simply having a mini-vacation and simply wanted to go overseas. By distance, South Korea is the closest country he could fly to. It would only take him a few hours to get there by plane. 2
He wrote about his Seoul trip on their LINE Blog while he was still there and mentioned he’ll only be there for two days. He also mentioned how lost he was at that time because he now realized how intimidating it can be in a foreign country on your own with signs you’re unfamiliar with and a language that you’re not so familiar with. 3 Even if it was a few days, you can easily tell from his blog entry how much he was enjoying his trip, even if it’s a few days.
When he returned home, he mentioned also that next time, he would have to travel with someone who is more familiar with the country. In fact, someone already offered to travel with him to S. Korea next time: his close friend and hyung, 4 Jin of fellow brother group UNIONE. 5
Unlike SHIN, who pretty much had very little to no clue on what he should be doing or where he should go during his Seoul trip, his leader YOU-TA was very prepared for his first overseas trip to a country where he may be somewhat familiar with: Philippines.
His Instagram posts and tweets clearly showed that he went all-out during his almost-a-week vacation in Cebu by being a daredevil at a famous spot in Kawasan Falls.
Supremo, a knockoff of Supreme. Some may find themselves screaming that this is illegal, but in the Philippines, this is common. 6 At least, this isn’t exactly a ripoff, as YOU-TA mentioned that it only costs about $5.00 USD, and was even tempted to buy it himself too.
With two members making their first trips outside Japan, do you think MADKID as a whole is ready for America? We’ll see what happens.
New Photos for August 2019
When MADKID releases new photos featuring new fashion and new concept, it usually means something new and big will be announced soon. That can either be a new single, a new live tour, and even a new album. However, these photos are the only ones we got and nothing else… so far.
Still, enjoy the new photos!
Some other news…
A few minor things I want to indicate. I thought about writing another The AXCEL Side opinion post about this, but decided to just make a small addition to this post.
MADKID Official LINE Account Gone?!
On the last day of July, just before midnight JST, the MADKID Official LINE Account has been deleted. A lot of Axcels begin to wonder what on earth was going on behind all this. Some say it may be an accident or a mistake, but if that was the case, the MADKID staff hasn’t announced it yet.
On the other hand, the deletion did not affect their LINE Blog because the members are using their personal LINE accounts to write their blog posts instead of the official MADKID LINE account. 7 It also did not affect SHIN’s LINE LIVE account also, as he is using his personal LINE account and not the MADKID official account. However, their LINE LIVE/MAD MUSIC episodes from early this year and last year are long gone.
But now it does makes us wonder what MADKID is really up to. Are they going to create a brand-new LINE account? Or are they moving to a new platform? As an Axcel, I would be very anxious, but as a dev, all I can say is that we’ll just have to wait and see.
FC Site Under Construction
Also a few days ago (8/1/19), MADKID Staff also announced that the FC site will be going through a site renewal.8 For those who are interested in joining the MADKID fan club and be a legit Axcel, you will have to wait until the site is relaunched. The devs gave themselves the deadline date of 8/3 JST for the site relaunch.
This isn’t much of a secret, since MADKID Twitter tweeted it before, but one huge change in the FC site would be an internal messaging system where FC-only Axcels can communicate with each other. Speaking as a fellow dev myself, I am curious how their devs built this messaging system and how they’re going to implement it to the membership site. 9 In addition, I’m also curious how often do FC Axcels are going to use this messaging system when they can use more discreet social media accounts and other messaging systems like Twitter DMs, Instagram DMs, and LINE Messenger.
Again, let’s all just wait and see.
AXCEL STYLE Theme #5
Since they’re doing a lot of revamping on their end, I decided to do my own revamping as well by changing the theme appearance and other things for this site. My habit of changing themes is when MADKID releases new photos so that I can generate a sample color scheme that I can use for the theme’s colors.
This new slate grey-indigo blue theme that you see right now was derived from one of their group photos shown above. There are also a few things I’ve done for this theme:
Removing the single post-view sidebar and moved all the widgets to the footer.
Added a new section: sFAQs. 10 I opened this section based on the huge number of YouTube comments coming from both the RISE and FAITH music videos. To be honest, I don’t count that a lot of these people would be coming to this site and learn more about MADKID, but I do know that hopefully, this section and the site as a whole, can generate new Axcels, especially global ones.
Added a new footer widget that lists all the Twitter and Instagram accounts of all five members.
Other than that, not much significant changes. I did move my social media account links to the slide-out sidebar navigation, but that’s all for the changes.
Conclusion
August just started, so maybe we can finally have more news and updates coming from the guys. Aside from Crunchyroll Expo 2019 that’s coming up at the end of the month, they only have five events (so far anyway…) that will take place this month. As always, just keep an eye out for MADKID Twitter (links at the footer below) for any news/updates, and if you know very little to no Japanese, you can also follow me on Twitter as well.
